Michael Schlup

Michael is Sail Ventures’ Chief Operating Officer serves as E&S Lead for the &Green Fund investment advisory mandate.

A trained geographer, Michael has worked as a consultant in the environmental management and strategy space before joining BASE, the UNEP Collaborating Centre for Sustainable Energy Finance.

From there, he went on to develop the Gold Standard carbon project certification scheme under the auspices of WWF, establishing the brand as the leading scheme for carbon credits globally and leading it to a global brand creating environmental assets from over 1,000 projects.

After that he worked for Islan Asset Management, advising global agribusiness company Bunge on the establishment of an asset management business and the acquisition of Climate Change Capital. For Bunge, Michael also worked as Regional Manager Africa for the Environmental Markets team, working with 180+ projects in agribusiness value chains in Africa.

Most recently, Michael was the Global Partnerships Coordinator for Sustainability of the world’s largest cocoa and chocolate company, Barry Callebaut, and has been instrumental in establishing an innovative blended finance scheme to directly finance cocoa smallholder farmers in collaboration with IDH and IFC.
